Piergiorgio Colonna started learning the drums at the age of 10, in public schools and then as a self-taught student. At the age of 17, he began his higher studies at the E.R. Duni Conservatory in Matera, under the guidance of teachers such as Bruno Astesana, Fabio Accardi, Gianluigi Giannatempo, Pierluigi Balducci, Mario Rosini and others.
Here he obtained two diplomas: "Diploma di primo livello in batterie e percussioni jazz" (Bachelor in drums and jazz percussion - interpretation), with the vote of 110/110 and "Diploma di secondo livello in batterie e percussioni jazz" (master in drums and jazz percussion - interpretation), with the vote of 104/110.During his studies, he began his professional activity as a drummer with several projects in various musical styles. He specializes in jazz, asserting himself in the local scene, mainly with the group "Kind of Rhythm", a project that won third place in the "Onyx Jazz Contest" in 2019, and played at the "Gezziamoci Festival" in the same year, for the opening concert of the "Flatiron Trio", directed by the famous pianist Roberto Cipelli. He began teaching drums, which he did at the same time as his musical activity, both privately and at the "Accademia Musicale Gravinese" music school. In this role, he works with children, adults and people of all ages with physical disabilities and/or learning difficulties, deepening his studies through private lessons, masterclasses and workshops with Pasquale Fiore, Dario Panza, Chris Dave, Chris Coleman, Dave Elitch, Federico Paulovich, Dado Moroni and other internationally renowned drummers and musicians. In 2021, during his last year of the Master's programme, Piergiorgio will begin his studies at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, initially as an Erasmus student and then as a student in the Master's programme in music pedagogy - jazz drums, after finishing his studies at the Conservatoire E.R. Duni. He also continues his professional activity in Lausanne in parallel, which allows him to continue to enrich and deepen his pedagogical and artistic skills and to perfect himself as a musician and educator.
