What is live action?

Let's go from drawing to real life!

Live action is a film making technique. The moving image and the subject are recorded in real time. This technique is different from the frame by frame shooting.

As far as the manga universe is concerned, here "live" qualifies the faithful adaptation of a story, taking into account the scenario, the characters and the concepts. So we find real actors who embody the characters of manga in a universe adapted into a film "in the real world". They are therefore a kind of "remake" in real or photo realistic shots.

Disney movies

Many of the Disney studios' feature films have been adapted into movies, such as The Jungle Book, The 101 Dalmatians, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan or Cruella.

This trend of "reboot" is by far not over, other films like The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and Wendy or The Aristocats are expected.

Movies based on manga

There are also a lot of series that retrace the anime in a realistic world. The ones we have heard a lot about are Alice in Borderland (Netflix) or Cowboy Bebop.

The craze is just beginning, because many adaptations have been announced, such as One Piece (where there is a big debate about the actor who should play Luffy), The Promised Neverland and Sword Art Online, which promises to plunge us into a heroic fantasy universe (inspired by Game Of Thrones or Lord of the Rings).

The live action phenomenon is therefore to be watched, whether you are a fan of manga or classic cartoons. There is a lot to look forward to in all these adaptations!
